Children's feet are still in full development. Did you know that young children's feet are largely made of cartilage? This cartilage must gradually transform into bone and gains its shape and strength only through movement and by wearing well-made shoes. That’s why good, sturdy children’s shoes are not a luxury but a necessity.
During the first years of life, a child’s foot is constantly changing. The bones are still soft, muscles are developing, and balance is still being learned. Wearing the wrong shoe can hinder this natural growth or even cause permanent deformities.
A good children’s shoe supports the foot in the right places without forcing it. It allows movement where necessary but keeps the foot stable where support is needed. This balance between stability and flexibility ensures healthy development.
Leather is a natural material that breathes, adapts to the foot, and does not irritate the skin. This may sound simple, but it is crucial.
A leather shoe:
Synthetic materials do the opposite: they trap heat and moisture, cause friction, and irritate the skin more easily. Many cheap synthetic shoes even contain substances that do not meet European safety standards — which is especially concerning for young children who often put shoes or hands in their mouths.
The sturdiness of a good children’s shoe doesn’t come solely from the leather, but from the contrefort — the reinforced heel piece at the back of the shoe.
It keeps the heel upright, preventing it from tilting inward or outward while walking. This helps a child roll through each step correctly and develop a stable ankle position.
Equally important is the last — the shape on which the shoe is constructed. A proper last follows the natural shape of the foot: narrow at the heel, wider at the forefoot, and with enough space for the toes.
Cheap children’s shoes completely lack this knowledge. They are not made on a true last, making them far too wide and providing no support to the foot. To prevent the shoes from being too loose, they are often sold or bought too small. If parents don’t check in time, toes don’t have enough room and start to curl upwards because the shoes are too small.
Cheap children’s shoes may look cute or trendy at first glance, but under that exterior, they lack everything essential for healthy feet. They often have neither a sturdy contrefort nor a correct last and are made from synthetic, non-breathable materials.
What they usually do not have:
The result? Sweaty feet, skin irritation, misaligned feet, and even permanent deformities later in life.
We believe that a good children’s shoe must provide stability, comfort, and healthy growth. That’s why we only work with brands that understand how a child’s foot develops — brands such as Rondinella, Zecchino d’Oro, Ocra, Romagnoli, Stones and Bones, Naturino, and more.
They combine craftsmanship and expertise with high-quality materials:
Every child gets the support they deserve — step by step, day by day.
Your child’s feet carry them for a lifetime. What you choose today determines how firmly they will stand tomorrow — literally. A good children’s shoe is not just an accessory; it’s an investment in healthy growth, correct posture, and a comfortable future. So before you put that cheap pair in your cart, think twice: you’re not just buying shoes, you’re laying the foundation for your child’s future.
