Frequently asked questions

Fit and size

How much growth room should I allow in kids’ shoes?

Recommended growth allowance for children’s shoes

For children, we recommend allowing about 1 to 1.5 cm of growth room in their shoes. This gives children’s feet enough space to walk comfortably, move freely, and grow healthily, without the shoes appearing too large. More information can be found in the product details for kids’ shoes.

Allowance in shoes for adults or fully grown children

For adults or fully grown children, we recommend allowing a maximum of 0.5 cm of extra space. The toes should not touch the front of the shoe, but there should also be no excessive room. This ensures the shoes remain comfortable, stable, and perfectly fitting.

How do I measure my child’s feet correctly?

Correctly measuring feet

Place a sheet of paper firmly against the wall and have your child stand on it with their heels touching the wall. Mark a line at the longest toe (this is not always the big toe) and measure the length to about 0.1 cm accuracy. Always use the larger foot as a reference and compare the measurement with our kids’ shoe size chart.

How do I read the size chart?

Make sure to use the size chart for standard-fitting shoes. For some models, the online shop may indicate “runs small”– in that case, choose one size up. If it says “runs large”, choose one size down.

On our size chart page, you will also find a helpful video showing how to measure your child’s feet accurately.

Do these snow boots for kids run large or small?

Information about the fit of these snow boots (whether they run large, small, or true to size) can be found in the product details above. We recommend checking this information carefully to ensure you choose the correct size.

How often should I measure my child’s feet?

Measuring feet for babies

For small sizes, it is recommended to measure the feet every 3 months. Since young children often cannot accurately say whether their shoes are too small or too tight, it is important for parents to check this themselves.

Measuring feet for toddlers

From size 25 onward, feet grow a little slower. Usually, it is sufficient to measure the feet every 5 months to ensure a good fit and comfort.

Measuring feet for older children

As children grow, they can usually tell when shoes are too small or when their toes touch the front of the shoe. Still, it remains important to check foot size regularly to ensure a good fit and optimal comfort. In practice, measuring every 6 months is a good guideline.

Comfort and support

Do these kids’ shoes have a removable insole?

You can find out if these kids’ shoes have a removable insole in the product details above. Check the specifications for a “loose sole”, which indicates whether the insole can be removed.

Do these kids’ snow boots provide enough support for feet and ankles?

General support

Yes, snow boots generally provide adequate support for feet and ankles.

Flexible heel in snow boots

Snow boots have a flexible heel counter, which ensures stability and comfort while wearing, while still providing enough flexibility for easy movement.

Practical use

Are these kids’ snow boots suitable for daily use, for example at school?

No, snow boots are not suitable for daily use at school.

Material and breathability of snow boots

Snow boots are designed to provide warmth and protection from cold and snow. They are less breathable, which means they can feel too warm and less comfortable when worn all day at school.

Support and fit of snow boots

Most snow boots have a soft heel structure and provide less support and stability than leather school shoes. Their fit is also less suitable for extended daily wear.

When are snow boots appropriate?

Snow boots are ideal for extreme cold or snowy conditions, but they are not intended as daily shoes for the classroom or playground. For school days, we recommend sturdy leather shoes with a good fit and heel counter (contrefort).

Quality and maintenance

Are these kids’ shoes made of textile easy to clean?

Cleaning and caring for kids’ textile shoes

Yes, kids’ shoes made of textile can be cleaned with proper care. For stains and dirt, the shoes can be cleaned using the Shoeboy Multi Clean.

Refreshing and caring for kids’ textile shoes

To maintain textile shoes and refresh the colors, use the Collonil Nubuk + Textile Bottle. The built-in sponge allows for precise application, which is ideal for textile shoes with light-colored soles or stitching. Available in colorless and various colors.

Impregnating kids’ textile shoes

After cleaning and refreshing, it is recommended to impregnate the shoes with Collonil Carbon Pro Spray to protect them from water and dirt.
